Laser Hair Removal
Many different lasers exist, how they are used depends on the
wave length produced by a particular laser. The energy created
by the laser wave is absorbed by the hair follicles which have
pigmentation and heat is created. The heat created destroys
the har follicles. The laser is able to penetrate the upper
part of the skin.
For most patients the laser treatment has minimal discomfort
and requires no sedation, injection of local anesthetic, or
preparation on the part of the patient.
Unfortunately, only those hair follicles that are active have
pigmentation, these follicles are destroyed, but inactive cells
with no pigmentation will not absorb the laser energy and can
not be destroyed. In order to destroy these follicles they need
to become active. Because of this, multiple sessions are necessary
to get the clinical results desired. The interval between sessions
depends on the rate of hair growth in a particular area, closer
interval for facial hair removal due to more rapid growth.
Spider Vein Treatment
Millions of women are bothered by spider veins - those
small yet unsightly clusters of red, blue or purple veins that
most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. In fact,
its estimated that at least half of the adult female population
is plagued with this common cosmetic problem. Today, many plastic
surgeons are treating spider veins with sclerotherapy. In this
rather simple procedure, veins are injected with a sclerosing
solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from view.
The procedure may also remedy the bothersome symptoms associated
with spider veins, including aching, burning, swelling, and
night cramps.
What Are Spider Veins?
Spider veins - known in the medical world as telangiectasias
or sunburst varicosities - are small, thin veins that lie close
to the surface of the skin. Although these super-fine veins
are connected with the larger venous system, they are not an
essential part of it.
A number of factors contribute to the development of spider
veins, including heredity, pregnancy and other events that cause
hormonal shifts, weight gain, occupations or activities that
require prolonged sitting or standing, and the use of certain
medications.
Varicose veins differ from spider veins in a number of ways.
Varicose veins are larger - usually more than a quarter-inch
in diameter, darker in color and tend to bulge, Varicose veins
are also more likely to cause pain and be related to more serious
veins disorders. For some patients, sclerotherapy can be used
to treat varicose veins. However, often surgical treatment is
necessary for this condition.
Tattoo Removal with the Medlite Laser System
Decorative tattoos have a history dating back at least 5000
years. The desire to remove them has probably existed just as
long.
Early attempts to remove tattoos have had less than desirable
results. The use of dermabrasion, salabrasion and Argon or CO2
lasers have left behind scars in place of the tattoo.
The advent of Q-Switched lasers has permitted the removal of
most tattoo inks with a very low risk of scarring. The Medlite
Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser is the newest system in this class of
lasers. The Medlite can significantly lighten or remove many
tattoo inks, and is particularly advanced in the removal of
blue, black and red inks.
The Medlite laser removes tattoo ink with the energy of light.
Just as natural as sunlight is made up of light wavelengths
of many colors, a laser is a device which is designed to produce
one or more specific wavelengths of light. These wavelengths
are either absorbed, reflected or simple passed through objects.
Tattoo ink is removed by using a specific wavelength which passes
through the skin but is absorbed by the ink. The rapid absorption
of light energy causes the tattoo ink to destruct, where it
is then removed by the bodys natural filtering systems.
Medical research has taught us which wavelengths of light to
use and specificially how to deliver the lasers output
to best remove tattoo ink. The Medlite uses a light wavelength
which passes through skin, but is absorbed by most inks. The
Medlite also delivers th light in very short, high intensity
pulses for maximum ink destruction. The use of this specific
combination of wavelength and rapidly pulsed light results in
minimal damage to the skin while providing maximum tattoo ink
removal. |
